Recently, our Senior Sustainability Manager, Beth Jepson, spent time volunteering with Better Bankside and Plan Zheroes at Borough Market, supporting an inspiring initiative that tackles food waste while helping people in need.
Plan Zheroes works with Borough Market traders and local food businesses to collect surplus food that would otherwise go to waste. This food is then redistributed to nearby charities and community organisations, ensuring it reaches those who can benefit from it most.
A lasting impact
Plan Zheroes has partnered with Borough Market since 2014, creating one of its flagship food rescue projects. Over the years, the partnership has achieved remarkable results:
- More than 103 tonnes of surplus food saved from going to waste
- Over 246,400 meals provided to people in need
- More than 413 tonnes of CO₂ emissions avoided
