Parkeray at Deep Decarb: Paving the Path to Net Zero

Parkeray was proud to participate in Deep Decarb: Paving the Path to Net Zero, held on Wednesday 3rd September in partnership with HLW at Grant Thornton UK’s newly completed London HQ.

Our Senior Sustainability Manager, Beth Jepson, joined our client Grant Thornton, and delivery partners JLL, HLW, and BEYOND to explore one of the construction industry’s most pressing challenges: reducing embodied carbon.

The session shared practical insights into how the project team created a sustainable workplace, highlighting contributions from across project delivery and the role of sustainable design in reducing embodied carbon. These themes were framed by the team’s recent success at 8 Finsbury Circus, the new 100,000 sq ft home of Grant Thornton.

This landmark seven-floor fit-out achieved a 79% reduction in embodied carbon, setting a new benchmark for sustainable delivery. Key to this success was the high level of material reuse, including:

  • 63.7% total reuse of architectural finishes
  • 100% reuse of raised access flooring
  • 82.7% reuse of furniture
  • 38% reduction in furniture embodied carbon

The project also championed social value through procurement, with 78% of subcontractors sourced locally and 70% from diverse suppliers, demonstrating what’s possible when collaboration, innovation, and ambition drive the brief.

The session concluded with the team sharing lessons learned from the scheme, alongside an introduction to BEYOND’s Sustainability by Design Pilot Framework, before opening the floor to a dynamic and engaging discussion.

A huge thank you to all who attended and contributed to the conversation.
